Mushrooms on a tree trunk

DSC06718, originally uploaded by iMJ2009.

On the 10 January we went to Burrator Reservoir. To walk around the reservoir you will cover just under 4 miles. Its a popular place for runners and cyclists in the early morning as its pretty flat and a nice quiet place to train.

In the day the place is very busy with lots of families, dogs and walkers working their way around the water. Numerous streams run into the reservoir, allowing for fun and games with the boys jumping on rocks and climbing over and under fallen trees.

The ice cream van always seems to be on hand at the end of the walk to provide a cool refreshment before heading off.

Burrator can be found a few miles from Yelverton on the road to Princetown.

Is it a dog or a duck

DSC06926, originally uploaded by iMJ2009.

We went to Hound Tor today. Although it was very cold we had clear skies!

Here we have a photo of what I think looks like a dog although others say it looks like a duck! Either way its an interesting rock formation.

Hound Tor is approx 3 miles from Haytor on the South side of Dartmoor. To the South East of Hound Tor you can find medieval village ruins and further on Greater Rocks.

Hound Tor is a popular destination so it was no surprise to find the car park full with families and walkers.

My First Post

I have decided to create a blog to record the various places I visit during 2011. I am a father of 2 children (Luke aged 10 and Toby aged 8). My wife and I decided that we needed to get out and about more, to do this we now set aside Sunday as a day when we go out and visit, walk, explore somwhere different. By the end of the year I will be able to look back and relive some of the places we have been to.

We live on the edge of Plymouth so have easy access to Dartmoor, the coast and Cornwall. I you have any exciting places we should visit please let us know. I enjoy taking photos so will be posting photos of our trips as we go.
