Trip to Niagara

At the end of May I was lucky enough to be taken to Niagara Falls for my 40th Birthday! 4 nights away in the most fantastic place on the planet! We stayed at the Doubletree Hilton hotel which was fabulous, we were on the 12th floor so had a view of the American Falls just about! However I wasn't there for the view from the window so this really wasn't any issue. It was a 10 minute walk to the falls from the hotel which was fine as the place was so quiet and relaxed it was great to be able to wonder around aimlessly at times!

We ate out for breakfast and dinner, we found a great breakfast spot called famous. This restaurant was in the Casino complex and did the best French toast! Our breakfasts were enough to keep us going until the evening so there was no need for lunch.

The area was very quiet so getting about was very easy, with no queues for any of the attractions. Quick tip! We bought a ticket that allowed us to do 4 attractions and included 2 days of bus travel which turned out to be great. Everyone was very helpful in the whole area.

If you want to go out on to Rainbow bridge remember you passport as you effectively leave Canada, the cost was 50c to do this and you need change - although there was a change machine in the bridge. We went across to America and paid $6 US for short term visas that allowed us to spend some time in the US as well!

Make the effort to get the bus to the far end of the river as there is loads to do and see, we got off the bus at almost every stop for a good look round.

We walked to Marineland for a day out and found the place to be massive but lacking sole! The place was so big it took ages to get from one attraction to another. Again the park was empty when we visited so no queues to see or do anything which again was a great feature!

Overall I would recommend Niagara falls to everyone - the place is so unspoilt and great for relaxing and photography.

Brentor 27 February 2011

Church1, originally uploaded by iMJ2009.
Today we took the short drive to Brentor Church. The church can be seen for miles around due to its high position on top of a hill. The drive is appox 15 miles from our home, but the church can be seen on the drive between Plymouth and Yelverton, some 13 miles away....

The church is probably a popular place in the summer, whereas today due to the wind, grey skies and rain meant it was a lot quieter. There is a small car park at the foot of the hill.

Today it was very windy on top which meant it was also very cold! It was good to get the cobwebs blown away but due to my issues with heights it was fairly nervy at the back of the church where it was most windy and very close to a sharp drop!!!

Plymbridge on 16 February 2011

Last week we went to Plymbridge woods. Unlike most weekends we went on a Saturday! We had some friends staying with us so we took the children for some fun in the woods! My mate Dan and myself spent the time taking photos, the children played with in weir, an all round good time!

Picking Saturday forour dayout worked out as on Sunday in rained all day! Parking is limited in Plymbridge woods so get their early...or late or park at the top of the hill!

If you are lucky you will see the wild deer roaming around as well.

Burgh Island

Today we visited Burgh Island. We picked the right day as the tide was right out so the sand plains were great for walking and playing on. Burgh Island is approx 20 miles from Plymouth. Theres a cafe and surf centre and lots of parking, although it is pay and display so take some change with you!
The Island hosts a hotel and pub, with a tractor running back and too during higher tides. As y9ou can see the weather was great, although you didn't feel the wind there was enough to wip up a few waves for the surfers.

Our youngest decided it would be fun to get completely soaked and covered in sand, the net result was a sand filled car when we got home!

Another great day out with some great oppotunities for photos.

Trip To Wembury

On 17th January we took the short drive to Wembury beach. Its a good spot for a walk and always popular with folk looking for surf to ride on. The weather was overcast and the forecast was for rain but this didn't deter us, we walked around the headland and played in the rocks and on the beach.

The tide was on its way in so we had to be a little bit careful of some crashing waves and low flying seagulls!
Alhtough the car park isn't huge it was pretty full, with many families taking advantage of a warmer Sunday than we have had recently.

When the tide is out the beach is open and there are plenty of rocks to play on, at all times there is a cafe and close by is the local church. Back up the hill there is a nice pub to warm yourself up after your walk!

Mushrooms on a tree trunk

On the 10 January we went to Burrator Reservoir. To walk around the reservoir you will cover just under 4 miles. Its a popular place for runners and cyclists in the early morning as its pretty flat and a nice quiet place to train.

In the day the place is very busy with lots of families, dogs and walkers working their way around the water. Numerous streams run into the reservoir, allowing for fun and games with the boys jumping on rocks and climbing over and under fallen trees.

The ice cream van always seems to be on hand at the end of the walk to provide a cool refreshment before heading off.

Burrator can be found a few miles from Yelverton on the road to Princetown.

Is it a dog or a duck

DSC06926, originally uploaded by iMJ2009.

We went to Hound Tor today. Although it was very cold we had clear skies!

Here we have a photo of what I think looks like a dog although others say it looks like a duck! Either way its an interesting rock formation.

Hound Tor is approx 3 miles from Haytor on the South side of Dartmoor. To the South East of Hound Tor you can find medieval village ruins and further on Greater Rocks.

Hound Tor is a popular destination so it was no surprise to find the car park full with families and walkers.
